Oh dear, I’m still stuck in 2017. The New Year has started without me.
Last week I wrote about the Post-Christmas Slump – ‘Surviving the weird bit in between Christmas and New Year‘.
Whilst I’ve moved on from Christmas and all of it’s mayhem, I’m still carrying that stuck-in-limbo feeling.
So why am I feeling this way and what can I do to move myself forward into 2018?
New Years Resolutions are crappy
I think New Years Resolutions are partly to blame here. I was supposed to join Slimming World on 2nd January and begin a workout class this coming Monday 8th January. Neither have happened/are happening. I’m still surrounded by mince pies, tins of Quality Street and Cadbury’s Selection Boxes. Generally, New Years Resolutions begin on the 1st of January – they haven’t for me (because I lack all motivation), so maybe this is why I feel like I’m still in December? If anyone has any words of motivation, please leave them in the comments below. I need to lose weight before I start my serious wedding dress shopping in the summer!
I have begun to eat better despite the odd snack of 3-packets-of-crisps in a row. My online shops this year consist of mostly fresh food and I’m back to using my Slow Cooker religiously – which is making us all eat so much healthier. I’m working on getting rid of all the junk food in the house. And by ‘getting rid’, I mean ‘eating’… Oops.
Start something new
For me, this was to read more. I’ve installed the apps Goodreads and Kindle on my iPhone and I’m already a couple chapters into Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine (which I’m loving and am well and truly glued to). I never thought I’d use Kindle, I’ve always preferred the feel of holding a book and turning the pages but I’ve been (rather surprisingly) converted!
I’ve set myself a target on Goodreads to read 25 books this year. Reachable? Most would think so but last year I think I started 5 books and only finished 2 of them. So 25 will be a challenge for me.
Ugh, redecorating my home. I started this at the beginning of last month (December) and I’m about two-thirds of the way through. Our bedroom is done; we bought all new bedroom furniture and bedding and repainted the whole room. The kitchen is almost done – just a little grout to clear off and a bit more painting. Then there’s the living room and hallway which all needs a fresh lick of white paint before finishing it off with some new shelves. I am so sick of painting.
Refresh the home
This month I’ve filled my kitchen cupboards with beautiful new crockery from Dunelm Mill. Replaced cushion covers and throws (also Dunelm Mill because I’m obsessed) and changed things up with new colours. Even the little things like replacing the Christmas flower bouquets with fresh white and yellow flowers have had a good impact on my mood.
Out with the old, in with the new
Have a good home cull! We completely culled our home this past week and it feels oh-so good! With the kids both receiving a tonne of new toys over Christmas, I made room for it all by bagging up their old stuff and donating it to their nursery. I also managed to bag up four large bags of mine and the kids clothes and donated them to charity. It seems our third bedroom was mostly full of old bits and pieces that were going to the tip ‘at some point’, so we paid someone to finally come and collect it all. Delilah now has her bedroom back and is mostly out of our bed – hurrah!
Slowly but surely, I’m catching up with 2018.
