Birchbox Advent Calendar Review – Days 1-12

Birchbox Advent Calendar Review – Days 1-12

This year I ditched my traditional chocolate Advent Calendar for something a little different.

After signing up to a monthly Birchbox subscription a few months back, I received an email from them advertising their Advent Calendar at a discounted rate for VIP’s (basically, anyone who is a subscriber). I showed it to my Other Half who very sweetly bought it for me. Love him.

The Birchbox Advent Calendar consists of 24 numbered boxes, each containing a makeup or skin/hair care product.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my daily unboxings on the Insta Stories (I’m an Instagram addict).

Here’s what I’ve received in boxes 1-12 and what I thought after trying out each item…

makeup

  1. Balanceme Natural Skincare, Radiance Face Oil
This product is 100% natural and smells it too! I’ve been suffering worse than ever with dry skin around my chin and jaw this winter and have been loving this oil. It hydrates instantly and leaves my skin feeling so soft. The oil is in a glass bottle and applies (really well) via a roller-ball. This is definitely up there with some of my favourite Birchbox products.
  2. Laura Mercier, Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Au Naturel
This eye colour is super creamy to apply but once dried will not budge! I did a swatch on my hand, scrubbed it in the shower the day after and it was still there. A shiny but subtle colour – one I will definitely be using again.
  3. Rituals, The Ritual Of Ayurveda, Natural Dry Body Oil
This smells devine, a mixture of coconuts and almonds. This oil soaks in instantly meaning that you’re not left with greasy skin. I’ve been using this on my dry knuckles and it makes me sniff my hands constantly.
  4. Nip + Fab Exfoliate, Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads
I’m not sure if these pads are full size but they’re a little small (may be sample size) and a little hard to keep hold of whilst using them. Other than that, I do really like them – they smell lovely, remove my makeup with ease and leave my skin feeling fresh.
  5. Eyeko London, Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
I love this Eyeliner, I actually received the sample size in one of my monthly Birchboxes which I’ve used daily so I’m very happy to have received the full size product. This eyeliner is soooo black and does not budge or smudge all day. It also creates the perfect flicks.
  6. Beauty Protector, Protect & Detangle Leave In Conditioner
This is another product that I have received in a previous Birchbox, and loved! I’m very happy to have received more. It smells lovely and makes my hair feel wonderful.
  7. Benefit Hoola
Another that I’ve received in a previous Birchbox. But another that I absolutely love! This bronzer is just beautiful. As soon as I run out of my two samples, I’m definitely buying the full size!
  8. Amika, Perk Up Dry Shampoo
There’s not much to say about a dry shampoo. I personally rely on them quite a bit so I always find them handy to keep in my bag.
  9. ThisWorks, In Transit Camera Close-Up
Mask, moisturiser and primer in one. This is a really nice product and leaves a dewy finish to my skin. It does a great job at making sure that my makeup stays put throughout the day.
  10. Nuxe, Prodigieux, Precious Scented Shower Oil
This smells lovely and does the job.
  11. Cargo Cosmetics Blush in Sunset Beach
First impressions; it doesn’t look like something I’d wear – too pigmented, too sparkly. I also received my monthly Birchbox the same day, opened it up and I’ve received ANOTHER Cargo Blush – exactly the same. So now I have two that I probably won’t use.
  12. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Lip Tar/Primer
100% vegan and cruelty free. This sample tube is tiny and is also only half full but it is really nice. It has a minty taste and makes my lips tingle. Keeps my lips looking glossy and doesn’t dry them out like other lip products do.

Very happy with the majority received so far. Read what I thought of boxes 13-24!
